Ellisville was incorporated in 1932. The community remained a village until 1957 when voters approved a proposition for the village to become a city. Ellisville has been awarded the National Arbor Day Foundation's designation of "Tree City USA" for 19 consecutive years.
The City has parkland totaling 198 acres. The park system is comprised of 10 parks, which weave through neighborhoods and are connected by multi-trails. The City of Ellisville includes single-family homes, townhouses, apartments, duplexes, and condominiums. Lots vary from one-half to three acres in size.
