Manchester: Brief City Overview

City of Manchester

Settled in 1795, the Manchester community has preserved its rich heritage for nearly 200 years amid a steadily growing residential population and commercial district. The City of Manchester was elected to become a city in 1959. The City of Manchester has a mix of over 260 commercial, office, and retail businesses.

Manchester has a downtown Historic District with unique shops and boutiques in addition to shopping centers, restaurants, and private recreational facilities. The city has identified over 30 buildings that have historic significance. The structures from the 1900's are bordered by a blend of modern subdivisions of attractive single-family homes and apartment complexes.

The 5 parks located within Manchester total approximately 55 acres of parkland. Each offers different amenities attractive to residents and families. Manchester has a very low property tax and provides homeowners free trash and yard waste pick-up, and streetlights.

Manchester comprises a variety of residential properties and is easily accessible to Interstates 44, 270, and 40/64, only 35 minutes from downtown St. Louis, and 30 minutes from Lambert St. Louis International Airport.
